Phoenix Coronet Shawl
Far in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-220), the development of filigree in China had been very impressive. With respect to its further development in dynasty after dynasty, it became an increasingly mature kind of arts and crafts in China, making jewelry processing to be more perfect. The Ming Dynasty, for example, rulers like to use a lot of gold, silver, and other kinds of jewelry material to produce accessories, jewelry and living utensils.  Most of them are in luxury & exquisite varieties.  Hundreds of gold wire crafted funerary objects, such as golden emperor crown, queen coronet, jade inlaid golden flower were unearthed from the Dìng Líng Tomb.  The intricate and fine detail of the items show the superb craftsmanship.

filigree jewelry

Interesting article Adrina, Arts and Crafts Company (www.arts-and-crafts-company.com) currently have a fine carved Jade Peacock (Phoenix?) in our inventory believed to date from the Ming - Qing Dynasty which has carved "fixing slots" to the rear of the object. Possibly for attachment to a noble wire or filigree headdress as an ornament. I will further my research and knowledge from the objects found at the Ding Ling Tomb excavations.
